Using a lot of printer ink with your homeschooling work?

We seem to go through printer ink like water and as we all know it ain’t cheap! So, if you can answer “yes” to “Using a lot of printer ink with your homeschool?”, I have some really good money-saving news.

About 1 1/2 years ago, we had a good friend over who was trying to help us with some techie-type computer issues. As he was working away, he noticed we had the same printer that he has at work. He asked me if we used a lot of ink. “A lot?!?” I responded, “We should buy stock in the company! We’d be rich!”

He went on to tell me about a great company, 4inkjets.com!, he had found for the purchase of his ink supplies. Said he, “Not only is the price about 1/3 less than what we had been paying,  the re-manufactured cartridges they sell hold almost double the quantity of ink. (He’s a real detail kind of guy and actually told me the exact amount of ink the cartridges held!) “And,” he continued, Read the rest of this entry »

Buying & Selling Used Homeschool Curriculum

It’s hard to believe that it’s that time of year again when homeschoolers begin looking for resources to use for next year. (Where does the time go?!?) Let me give you some ideas on where you can find some good buys and good places to sell the used homeschool curriculum and resources you no longer need.

eBay

EBay is one of my favorites. In my opinion and experience, it’s a great place to buy and sell. I have purchased a number of homeschool resources for a very reasonable price.

The most critical thing to check before purchasing is the seller’s feedback. I personally won’t buy anything from anyone with a feedback score below 98%

I have also sold many items, for what I believe is a fair price (my customers seem to be happy according to my feedback ratings – click here to check out my store) and I have been able to recover some of the cost of my original purchase. You can also check out the eBay box (you’ll have to scroll down a bit)on the right for some of the other current homeschool listings. Read the rest of this entry »

Transcripts for Homeschooled Highschoolers

Why include transcripts under the series of “Distance Learning Options for Homeschoolers” and not under “college”? It could fit under either category because it is “the” document colleges are interested in, but the record-keeping and documentation for transcripts is done while your student is in highschool.

I chose to include it in this series, for the latter reason plus if the thought of doing a transcript paralyzes you, it could be a deciding factor in your choosing a distance learning option, simply because most distance learning schools will take care of the record–keeping and provide you with a completed transcript at graduation.

On the other hand, you can do your own transcript and there are a number of ways you can make it look “professional”. The downside is the additional record keeping you will need to do. You will need to document all the activities your highschooler does that shows that the learning took place, keep track of hours so you will know how much credit to award and assign a grade, which can be a bit of a challenge if you’re not doing the traditional textbook/test routine.

Having said that, it’s worth noting Read the rest of this entry »
