Intro
Today I begin a series on distance learning options for homeschoolers. I thought, “I’ll start with charter schools – a common buzz word these days. That shouldn’t be too hard to pull together.” I thought I could do some research and put out a simple article explaining charter schools. Silly me!
As I began to researching charter schools, the more confused I became! But, I guess that shouldn’t surprise me. Typically, when the government gets their hands into something, it becomes complicated and since charter schools are government funded public schools, of course it will be complex. I now realize I need more time to put together information about charter schools.
Therefore, today, I’ll just introduce my game plan for the series, which is subject to change.
There are many distance and online learning options available to homeschoolers and I want to take a look at the different types & varieties and the advantages & disadvantages of each.
Options I’m planning on looking at are:
- Charter schools, assuming I can sort through it all
- K-12 private distance learning schools
- Umbrella schools
- Schools offering individual online courses
- Any other options I come across
Let me ask you, are there any distance learning opportunities that you would like to know more about? Let me know & I’ll give it my best shot!
Pressing on,
Sue
