Hi Laraba,
Thanks for the comment. I, too have a degree and like you, I'm sure if I had sought out God's leading, he would have led me in a very different direction. But, again, like you, He has used it. Live and learn :)

Hi,

I totally agree! Our oldest is only 9 so we've got a ways to go, but I do not think college is a necessity for every person. Not at all! I pray that God will guide each of our six children and that we will be wise enough to let them do what God is calling them to do. Both of us have Ph.D's in engineering... my husband's degree enables him to support our family of 8. Mine, well, I got it, worked a couple of years, then had babies. I do work one day a week more to get out than anything else. There were good things that have come out of graduate school, but I am sorry I didn't ask God before entering grad. school. The Lord used it, but I am not positive it was Plan A for me. The very best thing about it was that I met my husband there!

Excellent post! You've really made some good points.
I've homeschooled my kids all the way through: two are in their early-mid twenties, and two are doing homeschool high school. Of the older two, the eldest refused college and has been self-supporting (including four years living alone in Chicago) since we finished homeschooling. My second-born graduated from college magna cum laude, got married and works for a Christian publishing house. Both are doing great! It's true that the world of jobs is changing dramatically, and the old rule "You must go to college" is no longer a given. Now #3 is 17 and considering her options. Four-year college is just one of her many options. A tech school certificate (one- or two-year) is the current favorite.
Glad I stumbled on to your post :)
